Guitar Guild Goa was formed in 2000. It was originally created as a forum for guitarists (amateurs and professionals) to interact and share music and ideas. The GGG has grown since then, not keeping itself limited to the guitar.
One of the first national-level events hosted by the GGG was the in 2005 – the first All India Violin Competition in memory of David Menezes. In 2006, the GGG hosted the first ever national competition for classical guitar. The following year GGG guitarists formed the Acoustic Guitar Orchestra of Goa (AGOG), an ensemble of classical guitar students.
Since then the GGG has hosted events for all kinds of music including the GGG International Musik Fest in 2008 that featured the Goa Symphony Orchestra, as well as classical guitar concerts by Denis Azabagic, Johannes Moller, and others.
The GGG also supports Ultra Brass Sound, a brass ensemble of two trumpets, French horn and trombone as well as the Panjim Open Philamonic (POP) Orchestra, an open orchestra that allows anyone who can read music and play an instrument to participate.
The latter two are initiatives of Rui Lobo, founder of the Guitar Guild Goa.
