Folias Gallegas and Fandango by Santiago de Murcia performed by the Zapico brothers
Santiago de Murcia was a Baroque Spanish guitarist who wrote many of the most beautiful and original pages of music for guitar. The Folias Gallegas remember us the music from coastal towns of Galicia with pedal notes like bagpipes, as the sea sounds. On the other hand, the Santiago de Murcia’s Fandango is the first known written fandango: one of the most characteristic ostinato basses of Spanish dances.
In this live recording, the Zapico brothers present an arrangement of both pieces with an improvised accompaniment by the theorbo during the Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival 2016.
