This summer we took the guitar maestro Paul Cesarczyk to the North East. He visited Dimapur, Kohima and Imphal as part of the IGF Summer Workshops 2018 giving concerts and masterclasses in each places.
Dr. Paul Cesarzyk is the head of the classical guitar department and DM program chair of the Mahidol University College of Music in Bangkok, Thailand. Paul has been based out of Bangkok for about a decade and under his guidance, the standard of guitar playing in the country has increased, putting Thai players on par with international classical guitarists from anywhere in the world. In 2015, his student Ekachai Jearakul became the first Asian to win the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America’s International Concert Artist Competition.
This is the 4th extended workshop that the Indian Guitar Federation has had with Paul Cesarczyk. We see the value of an ongoing association with a guitar maestro who has been able to establish the classical guitar so firmly in a country where (like us), it is not a traditional or native instrument.
This was also the IGF’s first visit to Kohima and Imphal. Based on the success of this tour, we are in the process of developping long-term partnerships with local guitar associations in each city.
